What others are saying
- Family orientedHickory Hills is not half as family oriented as the "THE DAY IN THE COUNTRY" in Huber...too many times you see inappropriate behaviors at Hickory Hills totally different environment for anyone who hasn't been to both just ask me to elaborate looks like the family takes the loss in this judgment by k99 but hey thats been a new problem with society period!!! take good care of future FANS...NOT!!!
- Day in the CountryI find it very unfortunate that both events (Day in the Country and Hickory Hills concert) can't take place. I agree with the previous post that states that A Day in the Country was promoted as a 'thank you' to the fans. Many people created 'family traditions' by attending every year. It seems to me that the station could've come up with an alternative instead of just cancelling (or "combining") the event completely. Many people can't get to Hickory Hills or afford tickets. I think its a shame that our family-oriented 'thank you' has gone by the wayside in favor of an overpriced event too far away to attend.
- Day In the CountryDay in the country was a great time been going for 12 yrs. Well cant afford go to country concert so i dont know what to do. I got an idea CONTINUE Day In The Country but instead of free day Sell the Tickets for $10 or $20 dollars. Im sure the local fans that came to day in the country would agree that 10 20 dollars is still werth going to.
- Thank youK99 Thank you for all the years you did do a day in the country, its always nice to get some free fun. With the economy the way that it is this year it may be hard for people to get the money for tickets. But those who are loyal will find a way no matter what. I on the other hand, would love to find some nice person who would give me tickets. lol. my husband wont let me buy them. Anyways Good luck with the show. Tell Kenny I miss him coming to nutter center. Amy Stevens a loyal listener
- Day In The CountryAllow me to attempt to address some of the comments here.
First, we did not cancel "Day In The Country" because of corporate greed or with the intent of harming people who don't have money.
When Day In The Country began 17 years ago, there were very few country shows in the Dayton area. That is no longer the case. Almost every county fair in the area books one or two country acts. You have amphitheaters all over the area booking acts, not to mention festivals, Fraze Pavillion, etc. Very few, if any of these venues either existed in 1989 or were booking live national shows. Because artist contracts include a "no compete clause" that prohibits them appearing anywhere within 50 miles of the concert for up to 6 months before and after the show date, the number of acts we could book became extremely limited.
With Country Concert being as big a show as it is, joining forces with it was a logical choice. Quite a few other areas of the country would die to get a show like this.
We didn't want to see the quality of our show decline. But having fewer and fewer acts to choose from would certainly have resulted in a less desirable show and fewer attendees.
So, reluctantly, we decided to get out of the concert business. The opportunity to tie-in with Country Concert is a natural - it is, without a doubt the largest country concert in Ohio and this part of the midwest. We're proud to be a part of it.
Oh...by the way, we also still do a "free" concert. It's the "Freedom's Call-Tattoo" and fireworks show the week before July 4th at the National Museum of The United States Air Force.
Charlie Daniels was there this year, it was a great event for families with over 80,000 people in attendance. Were you there? Were you listening? We promoted it constantly for 2 weeks straight...
If you didn't get the word, sorry for that...but that's why you need to listen. :)
Hope to see you in Fort Laramie...or if not, at the Air Force Museum next summer. - these commentsit seems like alot of people demand free stuff...where does it say that country shows have to be free?
crazy...
if k99 did this free for 18 years...bless them....you don't get that from other stations... - Day in the countryI also think it's terrible that the concert that was advertised for years as a "thank you to fans" is not happening this year. We had a tradition of attending every year and was disappointed to find out it is being replaced by an over priced 4 day event. Of course, I would love to attend, but the price for a family of 4 would be too expensive.
- Country ConcertWhat a great show!! Can't wait for Kenny Chesney!!!!
- I would love it if i could win tickets! I have never been to a concert before!!! and i love country music! i really really want to go!
- A Day in the CountryI think its kinda unfortunate that corporate greed has clouded your appreciation for your listeners like me and my family who cannot afford to attend Hickory Hills. We made it a family tradition to attend A Day in the Country for the last 10 years, where I've attended by myself for the past 13 years. It was a place that I would be happy to bring my children because of the family area with no alcohol permitted, whereas Hickory Hills has no such place. I've been a loyal listener for as long as I can remember, but am now going to look for other stations. I find it very unfortunate that you are uncapable of promoting both events simultaneously, considering they are a month apart. Hopefully, you will reconsider and bring back next year.
- County ConcertI need tickets also!!!! I am with you I would also love to win them. It is going to be a great show.
- TicketsI think we would all love to win tickets!!! It is going to be a great show..... Who would not want to go?
- i would LOVE to go ive never been to one!!!!!
- YEAH COUNTRY MUSIC!!!I NEED TO WIN SOME TICKETS TO GO! I HAVE NEVER BEEN & WOULD LOVE TO FINALLY GET TO GO!!!!!!
