Ever have one of those days where you wake up in a panic, cause you're late? That's what happened to Jack today as he overslept! Same thing occurred last week to golfer Jim Furyk when he was five minutes late for his tee time at the Barclays pro-am, when his cell phone battery died meaning his alarm didn't go off! As a result, Jim was disqualified because of it! That's why I set three alarms every morning. I have an annoying clock radio, my cell phone and a battery operated clock! Ever been late to anything??

It's September, so Summer's Over

It's September 1st, which to me, means summer's over. I know technically summer will be here for a few more weeks, but whenever I turn that calendar over to September, it screams FALL. The Montgomery County Fair opens today, and even tho it's still summer, I think of it as a fall fair! Just like the beginning of December signifies winter, March means it's spring and June it's summer. Too bad the weather people don't agree! Another sign summer's over is King's Island closing for the winter. But not before they're holding a reunion of former employees this weekend. Y'all remember my summer job as a corn detasseler? What's the end of summer for you?

Dancing with the Stars is back!

The Dancing with the Stars lineup is complete! Here's the "situation!" "Nobody puts baby in a corner!" "When a man loves a woman" he'll hear "Oh Mike!" Some of the "stars" are no surprise, Baywatch alum David Hasselhoff, Jersey Shore star Mike "the Situation" Sorrentino, Florence Henderson from the Brady Bunch, and retired NFL quarterback Kurt Warner. Others include crooners Michael Bolton and Brandy, former NBA great Rick Fox, actors Jennifer Grey, Audrina Partridge and Kyle Massey, comedian Margaret Cho, and political daughter Bristol Palin. The professional dance partners won't be announced til tomorrow. Who will win? I'm going for Jennifer Grey--she danced with Patrick Swayze you know! The show debuts September 20th on ABC.

I know it's not really nice to point out folks' misfortunes, but for the second weekend in a row, someone has gotten in trouble with the law at a Toby Keith show! Now, I'll be the first to tell you, it is NOT Toby's fault. How's he supposed to know when people get all crazy out there in the crowd? Anyway, according to Cincinnati.com a guy named Forrest Frankenstein Jr was intoxicated at Toby's Riverbend show Saturday when he threatened Hamilton County deputies by saying, "If I had a knife I would stab you." You can imagine how it goes downhill from here. Read all the details. Question is, does the name your parents give you define your destiny?

We're kicking off the season with the Valley View Spartans! Look for our girls as the "cheerleaders of the week" each week on "Touchdown 7" on WHIO TV! High school memories always come flooding back for me this time of year, most good, some not so much and it mainly has to do with what was "cool" back then! I graduated from Southeastern in South Charleston in 1981 and back then, it was big hair, Calvin Klein jeans, painters' pants and Trapper Keepers! What was "cool when you were in school?"

Woman Gives New Meaning to "Cat Litter"

This gives a whole new meaning to "crazy cat lady." You may have heard (or seen the video) of the British woman seen on security camera petting a tabby cat, then looking around to see if anyone sees her as she dumps it in a trash bin and slams the lid!

The poor kitty was trapped for over 15 hours before her owners found her! As for the dumper lady? She says, "ok, I shouldn't have done it, but it's just a cat at the end of the day." What???? Mary Bale later apologized profusely, saying, "it was a split second of misjudgment that got completely out of control." Read the story here! Local Grads Continue to Make it Big

School's back in officially, much to my nephews' (and tons of other kids') dismay and happiness of parents! Bellbrook students are thrilled to be able to drive to school after a 40-year ban was lifted. Football Friday begins with us this week with Valley View and some local products continue to dazzle. Saw Alter football grad Nick Mangold has become the NFL's highest paid center, signing a seven year deal with the New York Jets. Read more here. Centerville's Kirk Herbstreit, former OSU star, now ESPN analyst, says he has dreams of being the Dick Vitale of college football. Chances look good for Austin Spitler, Bellbrook and OSU football standout, to be a permanent fixture with the Miami Dolphins. Then, there's Justin Masterson, Beavercreek baseball pitcher who now throws for the Cleveland Indians, Justin Chambers, a successful model and Hollywood actor out of my high school Southeastern, and Wyatt McCubbin, also from South Charleston, an up and coming country singer. Got any bragging rights about someone you went to school with who made it big? Can you say, "I knew them before they were famous?"

Can Tiger Redeem Himself as a Dad?

I guess you can say the "fat lady is singing" when it comes to the marriage of Tiger Woods and his Swedish born wife Elin Nordegren. The couple was officially granted a divorce yesterday in Panama City, Florida after months of scandal surrounding Tiger's extramarital affairs. In a joint statement released by their attorneys, the couple said, "We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," Read the whole story here at espn.com. The marriage was described in court documents as "irretrievably broken" with no point in trying to reconcile. Terms of the divorce were not disclosed, except that they will "share parenting" of their two children, 3 year old daughter, Sam and 19 month old son, Charlie and Elin will take back her maiden name. "Shared parenting?" Hmmm...here's something to think about, if Tiger failed at his marriage and proved to be a bad husband by the choices he made, can he still be a good father? Or will he continue to put himself first?

Welcome (Stadium) to the Jungle!

Even tho I'm not a die hard Cincinnati Bengals fan, it was cool they came to Dayton to practice at Welcome Stadium yesterday. Some 15-thousand people got "Jungle" fever as they watched their favorite players and stormed the field afterward for autographs! Coach Marvin Lewis took some time beforehand to talk to the University of Dayton football team, what a treat for them! Speaking of autographs, I really like how some NFL teams have come up with autograph policies during the pre-season. Both the Bengals and the Browns have set up special autographs areas after their practices, but are restricting the signings for kids, 14 and under. Great idea! Keeps the grown ups and autograph sellers at a distance at least. Let the kids see their heroes. I found an old autograph I got when I was in high school from Art Schlichter! He was a freshman at Ohio State at the time, back when things were good! Gonna keep it, why not? He was cute, you know.

Doughnut Dork Queen: Boy, was my face red!

Gonna be on vacation for a few weeks---I'll miss you guys!!! Rowdy J will be in, so be nice! Anyway, I thought I would be nice today and bring donuts in for everyone (plus my inner Homer Simpson was jones-ing for one anyway!) So, I head on over to the Krispy Kreme on Dorothy Lane this morning about 3:15. It's kinda dark, but I'm thinking no big deal cause McD's is usually dark inside, but their drive-thru's are open. I pull around to the order menu which is lit up like a Christmas tree. I'm looking over the choices, and no one says anything, but I figure they're making the donuts. After about a minute, I say, "hello? hello?" It suddenly dawns on me, maybe they are NOT open. I creep around to the window and crane my head to look inside. You guessed it. Empty. Not a doughnut in sight. So I slink away, hoping the security camera didn't catch what a dork I am! So, that's the memory I'm leaving you guys with for my time off! Dork Queen! In the meantime, feel free to make me feel better by sharing your "embarrassing moments!"

Blizzards in the forecast for Miracle Treat Day!

It's Miracle Treat Day! Woo hoo! Any ice cream lover out there knows exactly what that is all about! If you don't, here's the "scoop" (haha): our friends at Dairy Queen are hosting the fifth annual Miracle Treat Day all across the country. All day long today, for every Blizzard sold, a portion of the money will go to the Children's Miracle Network! Just last year, MTD brought in over $22,000 for Dayton Children's! Pretty "cool" huh? (haha again). Childrens' Ambassadors' Casey Mowen and Justice Thomas stopped by along with Debbie Butner from Childrens' to tell us all about it and why it's crucial to keep Dayton Children's the best hospital around! Making your Mark in History!

Yesterday was a pretty good day. First, thanks to God for letting my Mom's heart tests come back ok! Second, got to "make my mark" or "leave my legacy" for history! A nice way to say graffiti I suppose! You may have heard K99.1FM, our sister station, WHIO Radio and WHIO-TV are joining our print family, the Dayton Daily News, in one big building on South Main, near UD. We're all gonna move in by the end of the year, but a new addition has to be added on to accommodate the broadcast kids. The dudes in charge thought it would be cool to let all of us sign the newly constructed beams! Fun, eh? So people are writing their names, mottos, stuff that will stand the test of time! I wrote my name and put Kerrigan's in a little heart next to it! You ever do something like that? Maybe carved your initials in something or wrote on a bathroom wall (!) or painted a rival school's rock? Do share!!!

Cincinnati Woman Fails at a 911 Love Connection

I guess desperate times call for desperate measures, right? But come on! Some lady just outside Cincinnati was apparently having trouble with her love life cause she kept calling the 9-1-1 dispatchers asking for a date. Not once, but four or five times! Police say 43-year old Bernadette Music was booked into the Hamilton County jail on charges of disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

Last month, an Alliance woman was charged for calling 9-1-1 five times in a hour looking for a husband! WCPO in Cincinnati has all the details.

"Ramona & Beezus" Brings Back Runaway Memories

"Inception" was big at the box office again this weekend. Not even sure what it's about, except that ~~Jack Dawson~~ Leo DiCaprio is the star and that chick from Juno. Not even making the top 10 is the movie based on Beverly Cleary's novels about "Ramona and Beezus." I loved those books growing up. Basically they were about a big sister (Beezus) and her bratty nine year old sister Ramona. One scene in the movie, Ramona decides she's causing family probs and wants to run away. Her mom helps her pack a bigger suitcase, complete with bowling ball, and Ramona makes it about a block before she comes back home! Like most kids, I thought about running away, with one of those sticks and the bandana tied to it, kind of like Opie used to have? Or maybe like Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz?" But I was always too chicken. However, I often run away as a grownup!!!

Major Shakeups on American Idol!

Major American Idol news! Ellen is out and J-Lo is in?! Yup, it's true. Ellen DeGeneres told Fox it was a difficult decision for her, but "sitting at the that judges table didn't feel right" for her, so she's opting out of her contract. If you think about it, Ellen never really looked comfortable sitting with Randy, Simon and Kara. At times, it seemed like she was afraid to say anything or be funny. It's too bad, I liked her. But to replace her with Jennifer Lopez? Ugh. Read more here from MTV. I also heard juiciness that Kara DioGuardi's contract did NOT get renewed (phew!) and the replacement for Simon Cowell? Aerosmith's Steven Tyler! Or maybe Jessica Simpson or Bret Michaels. Not sure yet! Hmmm. Here's the deal. The most obvious success story to come out of American Idol is Carrie Underwood and she's country! Where's the country rep on the judges' panel? I know Simon hated country, but he's gone now, so where's Reba? Shania? Willie Nelson? Come on people!
